Hazel is the name of the street I live on. It is also the name of the Chief-rabbit in Watership Down. Every morning, like clockwork, pan-handlers flock to my corner and begin their daily grind: asking people for spare money. They are called homeless, but they have homes. They sleep in a building next door to me. It's a half-way house that the government pays for (the government also pays for the crack they buy, so you need not worry about them spending your money dishonestly). Similarily, just because I address myself as a "bum" does not automatically make me homeless, nor jobless, nor girlfreindless, nor ambitiousnessless (whew!). I have all of the above. The "bum" in my handle is an homage to Jack Kerouac's book The Dharma Bums.
People today think being a hermit is a very unhealthy thing to do. Very antisocial, doesn't contribute anything to everybody else - because everybody else is busy contributing like blazes, and a few people have to run off and get out of the way. -- Alan Watts
"I want to work in revelations, not just spin silly tales for money. I want to fish as deep down as possible into my own subconscious in the belief that once that far down, everyone will understand because they are the same that far down." — Jack Kerouac
